Fly Fishing Mexico - Pesca Maya Fishing Lodge opened its doors in January 1996 and has quickly become one of the Yucatan's most popular fishing destinations and with good reason. The lodge is located 90 miles south of Cancun in the 1.3 million acre Sian Ka'an (Mayan for "where the sky is born") Biosphere Reserve. Situated on a long, narrow strip of barrier beach, the lodge is virtually surrounded by water. To the east lies the blue Caribbean and a few hundred yards off shore, the Palancar Barrier Reef that stretches from southern Belize to north of Cancun. On the western side lies the vast "El Rio" system of flats, channels and mangrove. 10 miles to the north is the famed inlet through the barrier beach known locally as the "Boca". And 4 miles to the south lies the incomparable Ascension Bay. The entire area boasts some of the Caribbean's greatest flats fishing for bonefish, permit, snook, tarpon and others, as well as reef and offshore fishing (in season).

Fishing
Variety is the word to describe Ascension Bay and Bocapaila flats. There are hundreds of square miles where it’s common to see bonefish, permit, tarpon and barracuda in the same day, all year round! With seasons for migrants tarpon and snook. That’s why more Grand Slams have been caught in this area than anywhere else in the world. Please bring a good selection of tackle to target all these species in the same week. For flats fishing, we can go south to Ascension Bay or, if the wind is too rough, we can go north and find flats surrounded by mangroves. Both places are known to harbor bonefish, permit, tarpon, and barracuda in good quantities.

Guides
Pesca Maya recruited some of the old Pez Maya Lodge guides and the best Punta Allen Village guides. All are professional native guides with years of experience, who know Ascension Bay and Bocapaila Lagoons like the back of their hands and will put you on the fish. Some speak fairly good English and others speak international fishing English to spot the fish and direct your casting.

Boats
Our boats are local made fiber glass "pangas" with a Yamaha 40 HP outboard motor. Boats are well suited for fly fishing with spacious platforms. The boats are comfortable to cross Ascension Bay even on the tough days and can maneauver in only 6 inches of water.

Rooms
The lodge has eight attractive thatched roof cottages that are rustic and cozy. Each room has a private bathroom with hot water and is cooled by the ocean breeze through it's cross ventilation 90 yards from the beach.
