HAFRALONSA Hafralonsa is one of the rugged and remote northeast rivers of Thistilfjordur and the one flowing furthest east and closest to the village of Thorshofn. Salmon run far and deep inland and at the top there is a huge canyon with a series of breathtaking falls. Below the canyon the valley opens up with tundra like vegetation circled by looming brooding mountains. Another canyon opens up closer to the sea and in it some stunning pools and a falls, Gusti, that stops the runs for awhile early in the season. Some of the canyon pools have ropes for accessing. Below the second canyon the valley opens up again and for the remainder of its path the river has a series of big slower pools. Hafralonsa is fished with six rods. When fishing the upper canyon and the inland moorlands the rods do not return to the lodge at midday. They go fully equipped with food in the mornings for the whole day and have access to a small lodge high up the river. |
