Combo Bonefish / Tuna Trip on Fly

Superb Review by Clients on this Program:
Trip Review

H2O's program on Grand Bahama is an ideal destination for the traveling angler and their often not so serious traveling companion. There are few places in the fishing realm offering world-class bonefishing, luxury accommodations and plenty of interesting activities for non-anglers. This destination is able to achieve this atmosphere. For the hardcore angler you won't find a better destination to target big bones on fly.

Because Freeport is the easiest Bonefishing location to get to in The Bahamas by commercial airlines (several direct flights from Major US Hubs – NJ, NY, Atlanta, Miami and Fort Lauderdale), Pelican Bay is a perfect program for executive retreats, client entertaining, coporate team building and incentive trips.

H20 Bahamas has implemented an offshore fly fishing program. This program targets a variety of Deep Sea Gamefish that include Dorado, Blackfin and Skipjack Tuna with the main target species being Yellowfin Tuna. To date the largest Yellowfin taken on fly is 62 lbs. Largest Dorado on fly is 35 lbs. Largest Blackfin at 17 lbs. and largest Skipjack is 11 lbs.

The program is available as either a dedicated offshore day or as a combination Bonefishing/Offshore day. The tuna come to the surface and feed late afternoon and evening making this an IDEAL COMBINATION as well as arrival day fly fishing option. MAXIMIZE YOUR TRAVEL TIME! All specialty fly gear (10 - 14 wt outfits) is included. Offshore season is May - Sept.

Accommodations
Pelican Bay is where visitors find Caribbean charm mixed together with Western European service. Danish architects incorporated sophisticated European design to create magical, timeless Caribbean architecture and luxurious accommodations. Each of the rooms has a private balcony that overlooks the courtyard area and the marina, shops and restaurants of Port Lucaya Marketplace. Rooms are decorated with colorful island spreads and drapery and white washed furniture. Floors are Italian tiled. Other guest amenities include a tropical fresh water pool, hot tub and pool bar.

Bonefishing with H2O
You can experience Bonefishing at its very best on the extensive, virtually untouched and remote flats of the northwest shore of Grand Bahama Island....and enjoy all of the comforts and amenities of luxury living at the same time!

Explore a wide variety of emerald clear waters and countless miles of weather protected island shorelines and flats stretching more than 30 miles from West End to the Grand Lucayan Waterway.

The bonefish can vary greatly in size from small 2 to 3 pound fish that can be found in schools to solitary or pairs and small groups that will weigh into double figures. The average size bonefish is a healthy 4 to 6 pounds and fish of 7 and 8 pounds are almost a daily encounter. The trophy sized specimens of 10 + pounds can be located at any time and anglers should be alert and ready to cast their offerings accurately. H2O's fly caught record bonefish, so far, is a remarkable fish of 14 1/22 pounds

Although Grand Bahama can be considered a world class bonefishing destination there are several other great gamefish that frequent our vast north shore flats permit and tarpon arrive during the spring and can be encountered until December. Barracuda can be found almost daily. There is also the possibility of running into packs of the hard fighting horse eye jacks that average 10 to 15 pounds. H2O Bonefishing therefore encourages all anglers to bring at least one heavier fly rod rated for either a 9, 10 or 11 wt. lines.

As there are no roads to access this area it has provided a bonefishing habitat that sees no pressure other than the few professional guides who fish these waters with their clients. You will not see the engine scares that are such a prominent and unappealing feature so often encountered on the flats of the Florida Keys and other bonefishing areas that receive a high amount of boating pressure. The entire area is pristine with a wide variety of wild land and marine based animals like ospreys and turtles which are not only pleasing to the eye but also good signs of a healthy environment. Once on the water the angler hears nothing more than the gentle lap of the tide and the busy screech of their reel.

Experienced guides are dedicated to making your fishing adventure both productive and enjoyable and will tailor your fishing days to individual preferences. Trained professionals will help perfect your fly-casting and spinning techniques if desired.

We use 16' Maverick Mirage flats boats powered by 90 HP Yamaha motors. Every boat is fully equipped to US Coast Guard standards, has a leaning post and trim tabs, enjoys regular scheduled professional maintenance, and maintains 2-way radio contact with our marina.

There is also the opportunity to wade fish a vast number of firm, sandy flats.

Grand Bahama Information
Grand Bahama is a 90-mile long island, whose length runs in an east-west direction, and is located east-southeast of Palm Beach, Florida. The Lucaya area of the island, and the Bell Channel inlet, is situated about 90 nautical miles from Miami, 80 nautical miles from Ft. Lauderdale and 70 nautical miles from West Palm Beach.

The Freeport International Airport is located 7 miles from Lucaya. Major carriers serving Freeport with multiple daily flights from various Florida cities include Continental (Operated by Gulfstream Airlines), American Eagle (American Airlines) and Bahamasair. In addition, several charter carriers, including Laker Airways, offer services from major U.S. and European cities.

Lucaya is a major international resort hub, featuring more than 1,500 hotel rooms; Port Lucaya Marketplace (more than 100 restaurants and shops); one of the world's largest diving facilities, Underwater Explorer's Society (UNEXSO); a two-mile beach fronting the Atlantic Ocean and the Lucayan Country Club, with a PGA approved Par 70, 18-hole golf course. Among the islands of The Bahamas, Grand Bahama Island is especially attractive. It has tremendous assets and potential. Of all the Bahamian islands, it lies closest to the United States. It has extensive infrastructure already in place, including modern roadways throughout the island, a deep-water harbor, and an international airport with frequent service to South Florida and Europe. It boasts important resources in power and water. It already has an extensive base of amenities and modern conveniences.

Custom fishing plans can be tailored to meet your specific needs. In addition to fishing we can include one or more days of golf, diving, swimming with the dolphins and kayaking, sightseeing or a combination of these activities.
